On leeman Road York between the Museum entrance and the entrance to Northern Rail train care depot stand part of an old red brick building. This was obviously part of York shed at one time. Does anybody know what part it was and why it survived and for what purpose it was originally used for?

In the latest edition of BRILL (Oct 08) on page 20 there is a map of the 1937 BR Survey of York. I can see the building you mean but unfortunately its not marked as to what it actualy is.

Interesting to see that the old station at York was actually inside the City walls.

I remember going on a coarse back in the early 1990's which was held in the old station buildings. There was a fire drill and the escape route was down some stairs onto what remaind of the platform and into the car park. I think there was a bit of the canopy left as well. I think this is all still there but it is hard to se now because of the new office block.

I suppose you mean the one here Building

There used to be North Eastern Crescent where the NRM car park is now, a row of workers houses going down towards the railway, and the next building after that is C.M.E Depot, so it seems to be part of this, as it was a lot bigger than that.

And for the record, the ones over the road are nothing to do with the railway, as they don't appear on the shed plan, that side of the road is blank, except for the shed Supt. & Clerks office on the corner, where the soon to be moved Arclight is at present!

As for the old Station, I don't have a clue how they built the present one, as the track to the North (after they'd reversed out of the Station) went directly through the middle (accross what it there now)

of the prersent station, so they must have put the line in first and then built around the trains going to/from the North!
