The first of this year's Waverley tours from York to Carlisle hauled by LMS 8F No.48151 standing in for 'Scot' 46115.

Two very local shots today, Church Fenton & Manston Crossing. I've uploaded the Manston shot with them both available on the 'Part 4' DVD.

That's it now, down to Barmouth tomorrow for a week filming on 'The Cambrian' =]

Clip Available Here

It's on the outskirts of cross gates, it's past the summit from climbing out of Leeds but you're always gauranteed a great shot. I'll pm you a map when I return back from filming in Wales on Friday, only got Internet access on mu iPhone at the moment.

Here we go...

Basically just park up on the road 'Manston Lane' and follow the footpath to the railway line, at the side is the old 'signal box'? Now a rather large house.

Would the crossing about a mile east of Manston be suitable?
White House farm. Should be able to get an eastbound round the curve under the M1/ A1 bridge. Access down lane from Garforth.

Got a fantastic shot there last year of the evening run looking towards Garforth, the video has since been removed from the internet. Looking towards Cross Gates would be OK too, my reason for not doing it was with using a directional microphone too much road noise would be picked up from the M1.

Looking a bit further onto Cross Gates too there's a bridge over the railway, just around the corner from Manston Crossing (public footpath) which I did do last year on the outward and that worked really well and the engine was still working.

More like just a former crossing keepers' cottage, I'd say: Much extended, methinks!

Yes, that was more like the phrase I was looking for. My apologises it had been a very long day yesterday.

One final note to add about Manston Crossing, the light will most likely have gone come the 8th August when the next 'Waveley' runs, it may still be possible for video if we've had a clear, full wall to wall sunshine day as there may still be a bit of light in the sky. The shot works best dinnertime, come early afternoon if I remember rightly from last year.

5972 is moving from Carnforth to York on Monday via Leeds so perfect opportunity to have a look around Manston. Times as follows:

Quote:
Carnforth 12:58
Settle J 13:41
Hellifield 13:47 - 14:35
Skipton 14:54
Keighley 15:07
Shipley 15:19
Leeds 16:15 - 16:29
Crossgates 16:37
Church F 16:48
Colton J 16:55
York Yard North 17:06

For those of you that were wondering, I was at White House farm crossing this morning and took some photos for those of you considering the location.

Looking towards Cross Gates:

Looking towards Garforth:

Since my last visit last year, crossing lights have been put up with a rather annoying beeping noise. It's ok if you get up behind the fence in the first image which is where I stood today and it didn't destroy the video but for trains coming the other way you've no choice but to stand near the crossing gates so would ruin any potiential video.
