Looks like an early Derby winner, but no idea which. You'll find 60058 and 60081 here though: http://www.skreb.co.uk/sport.php

Very good indeed, it is. That is Blink Bonny, 1857 Derby winner, the earliest of all the A3 racehorse names and one of the best.

Jim I concur with Third Rail post the electric in modelling section and also if you have built an ES1 post that as well.

If your sense of humour is as warped as mine, you might like to guess which Gresley Pacific the picture below represents.

....and Britannias dont count ;)

I was somewhat fooled by the flowers which look quite pleasant in close up, but I rarely leave my plants to get that large.

I remember seeing this loco as a small boy in 1959 at Peterborough. I underlined it in my ABC but was told in no uncertain terms by some more senior spotter down my street a few days later that I couldnt have seen it because it was a Scottish engine and I admitted that at that time I had been no further north than York.

He accused me of cheating by just underlining anything, which was quite upsetting at the time. It didn't help that I had also seen A1 Redgauntlet on the same day, which was a Gateshead loco and I was told that was highly suspicious as well.

Yes, it was still a Haymarket engine in Spring 1962 according to my shed book - I never saw it,

I just thought I would follow up on this thread which I started because I heard the call of a cuckoo one evening in Haslemere ,a sound I hadn't heard for years. Then yesterday I saw a comment that the cuckoo population had fallen by about 21% last year and by 44% since 1995 mainly due to the reduced availability of the type of grubs and insects that the eat.
It looks as though the call of the cuckoo could become a rare sound to savour over the coming years.

Yes, I have not heard one here in Somerset for 20 years, but I paid a visit to the mother-in-law's in Kent at the end of May this year and heard one every day while we were there, and early one morning I could hear two calling at the same time.

I counted myself as very fortunate, and wonder how long it will be before the Cuckoo is listed in the Red Data book, if it is not there already.
